The Role of Digital Metering in Energy Transition: Insights from the ANIE SMG Workshop at Enlit Europe 2024
Clevenergy is committed to promoting a digital future for energy, and we are pleased to announce that Vincenzo Quintani, Clevenergy ‘s Sole Director and Coordinator of ANIE CSI’s Smart Metering Group (SMG), opened the recent workshop at Enlit Europe 2024. During the event, held on October 24 and titled “The Centrality of Digital Metering in Energy Carriers,” Vincenzo moderated a key panel discussion exploring the digitization and monitoring of water networks, with a focus on Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
“To date, we have more than 79 million meters in Italy, if we consider electricity, gas and water. With the traditional approach, these devices were passive elements used almost exclusively for billing. Today, on the other hand, they can become 79 million smart sensors in the field, a solid base on which to build a digital smart grid,” Vincenzo said, emphasizing how this infrastructure can revolutionize energy management.
The Benefits of Digital Metering in Energy Sustainability
The workshop highlighted how digital metering is a pillar for the sustainable energy transition, especially with the deployment of smart meters and the key role of the NRP. Quintani elaborated on several benefits:
- Consumer Empowerment: Advanced metering technology provides real-time data, enabling consumers to monitor and optimize their consumption. At Clevenergy, we are committed to providing solutions that help users make informed and sustainable choices.
- Data-Informed Decision Making: With analytics generated by smart meters, peak usage can be monitored and grid efficiency improved. Vincenzo emphasized how this information can guide more informed decisions for both users and energy service providers.
- Network Resilience: Real-time monitoring enables providers to react quickly to changes in demand, making the network more resilient and reliable.
Digitization of Water Networks: Ideas for Discussion.
During the panel discussion, Vincenzo quizzed the panelists on the role of water network digitization, asking crucial questions about the impact of the NRP for smart meter deployment in the water sector and future steps.
Other topics addressed included water loss reduction, distribution optimization, and the next technological frontier for water networks. “Currently, the water sector is among the most involved in the massive replacement of traditional meters with smart meters, with about 3.5 million devices replaced out of a total of 21 million, thanks mainly to the support of the PNRR,” Quintani highlighted, pointing out the strategic importance of these interventions for efficiency and sustainability.
Clevenergy’s Commitment to Excellence in Smart Metering.
Guided by the experience and leadership of Vincenzo Quintani, Clevenergy continues to operate at the forefront of smart metering. By providing innovative solutions for consumer and supplier empowerment, we are proud to contribute to an increasingly sustainable and digitized energy ecosystem.
The Enlit Europe workshop confirmed that digital metering is essential to the evolution of the energy sector. Vincenzo’s active involvement as Clevenergy’s Sole Administrator and SMG Coordinator reinforces our commitment to driving this transformation. At Clevenergy, we continue to work toward a connected, resilient, and sustainable energy future, ready for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
